Thom Muir'swork is the translation of experience into imagery, and the capture of the artefacts of that transmission seem to define the meaning of the work, the experience itself, and its communication.

Unrestricted in terms of medium, Muir has a deep reverence for traditional craft and materials, combined with an inherent sense of the temporality of objects, resulting in an undiminishable appetite for play and exploration. Having worked large scale as a mural painter for years, Muir’s approach to painting is kinetic, utilising the whole body in his stroke and often incorporating direct, almost graphic imagery that plays off more abstracted and surreal elements. The object is to capture the moment that the image was made as an extension of the moment it depicts, with surface, medium and approach all following this singular goal.As a result the work represents a varied methodology in service of this end, and what emerges is Muirs’ world experienced anew in each piece.
